Mourvedre Wine CASS Mourvèdre 2005 is a medium-bodied, ruby-colored wine with a nose full of smoke, spice and blackberry. The soft tannins make this a beauty right from the first sip full of ripe dark fruits, vanilla and a touch of pepper on the long, lingering finish. More elegant than most Mourvèdres, the lush mouthfeel keeps you coming back for more. It is aged for 18 months in Oak barrels. CASS Estate Mourvèdre grape vines were cropped from an 10-12 tons per acre to 4 tons per acre to improve the intensity of the flavor
and the color. The Mourvedre grapes were hand picked and fermented in open top fermenters, punched down 3 times a day and pumped over once each day. These operations soften the wine and intensify the flavors of the resulting wine. Mourvèdre is often blended with Syrah to bring spice and fruit to the blend. The downside to the blending is that the character of the Mourvèdre is easily overpowered by wines with strong character. CASS wine makers were satisfied with the fruit and the finish of the Mourvèdre, so they decided to do this 100% pure version of Mourvèdre. CASS California Mourvedre is a variety with wonderful fruity characteristics. This Hacianda Estate block is located directly in front of the Hacienda that is inhabited by the only vineyard employee who lives on site. The employee watches over this fruit more than any other variety in the vineyard.
