The 2004 Voyager Estate Chardonnay displays stone fruits, lemon zest, grapefruit and noticeable creamy nuttiness from the lees contact. The early picking, wild fermentation and addition of grape solids give the wine complexity and balance. These winemaking techniques combined with high quality French oak and regular lees stirring produce wine with ample flavour and texture. The wine has abundant natural acidity to provide structure and longevity. The 2004 vintage conditions were perfect for the elegant, structured mineral and low alcohol style of Chardonnay at Voyager Estate. The fruit profile is distinctly Margaret River showing grapefruit and dried pear. The palate is tight and long with excellent texture and a creamy mouth-feel with plenty of mealy and nutty notes. Drink through 2012. Limited Quantities available.
Voyager Estate is located in the premium wine producing region of Margaret River, Western Australia. Latest statistics show that, although only producing 4% of Australia's wine by volume, Margaret River wines account for 23% of the country's premium wine production. Some of the varietals in the region produce the highest rated wine of Australia. Voyager Estate is proud to be among the select wineries that contribute to this production. Their oldest vines date back to 1978. When current owner, Michael Wright, took over the property in 1991, he set out to expand it and develop a visitor destination that would be a showcase for the region. He also set out to ensure that, above all else, the quality of wine being made at Voyager Estate would always be the best that nature, expertise and pure hard work could provide. Ratings and reviews show that he has suceeded.
RATINGS: 94 Points - James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion
“Pale green straw; very elegant nectarine and apple on a light-bodied palate, which grows in intensity through its length to the finish and aftertaste.”
91 Points - Wine Spectator
91 Points - Ray Jordan's Guide to Wine
This continues the emerging style that winemaker Cliff Royle has developed at Voyager Estate. Its a fine and delicate style of chardonnay very much in the modern idiom. But it has a subtle toasty oak character, and a complex mix of grapefruit, meal, mineral and subtle nutty flavours. Lovely balance on the palate, which is tightly controlled and focused to a long sustained delicate finish."
4 Stars - Grape Expectations
“These new kids on the block have been causing quite a stir both in Margaret River and Perth. The seductive, creamy citrus nose is the curtain-raiser for a refreshing fruit-centric palate that steals the lime-light, relegating oak to a supporting role.”
3 STARS - Winestate, South Western Australian Regional Tasting
“…nice peach/cashew nose and seamlessly integrated fruit/oak palate.”

“While very young this showed the greatest potential of the twenty two Margaret River region Chardonnays tasted. The craftsmanship, when coupled with the full and almost regal regional fruit, presents a complete, harmonious, and beautifully textured example of a potential Australian Superstar. The finish and aftertaste are exemplary. ” |
