Gamay Noir wine Julienas 2005 by Roux Pere & Fils under the Charles Mignon label has rich, full Gamay flavors that include cherry and plum. This is not the Beaujolais wine that you often see, but rather a Gamay rouge that's a step above with a pretty ruby color and fresh pleasant flavors of cherry, plum and red fruits, all enhanced by subtle oak from the French oak barrels. With velvet-like tannins and a lingering mid-palate texture, this French Gamay is great by itself or will perfectly pair with cold meats, salads and crusty breads with cheese. Julienas 2005 Gamay wine is meant to be served slightly chilled at around 58 degrees Fahrenheit. Drink now or through 2010.
Chateau Roux, Pere & Fils is Burgundy, France's largest boutique wine producer. The domaine's vineyards are located throughout the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Châlonnaise areas. They cultivate their different grape varieties, Chardonnay for white
wines and Pinot Noir and Gamay for red, on east and south-facing slopes, in a clay and chalk soil. Wines are produced using age-old traditions combined with today’s most advanced technologies (especially in terms of temperature control, analysis, and inspection / sampling). Aged in oak casks for between 12 and 18 months, depending on the vintage and terroir, their wines have been featured in every single industry publication and all their wines have been rated by the most demanding wine critics. White Burgundy wines, benefiting from the best climate of the estate, are rich and complex with hints of vanilla, hazelnut, toasted almonds, yellow peach and honey. Well suited for aging, their red Burgundy wines are full-bodied and elegant, with flavors of fresh red fruits. Charles Mignon is one of the premium labels they use in the United States for their finer wines that are exclusively sold in high-end restaurants and clubs.
RATINGS: 86 Points - Cork'd
"This Gamay (the first I've tasted) has a powerful, pure, appetizing nose of candied cherries and strawberries, which is supported by a medium-bodied, slightly sweet, fruity palate, with good acidic freshness and good tannins at the finish. It's bold, easy to understand, and delicious. The fruitiness became almost too sweet after a while, but make no mistake, this is not a sugar-fied wine. For lots of flavor and tannins this is a good choice."
