Great Good Average Poor

Sauvignon Blanc White Wine Voyager Estate 2005 is considered one of the best white wines from Australia. Voyager Estate Sauvignon Blanc white wine 2005 has a pale straw color. In the nose it features lifted, fresh aromatics of guava and lychee. This classic un-oaked 2005 Sauvignon Blanc varietal wine has aromas of zesty citrus fruits, along with punchy Sauvignon Blanc grassiness. The palate is where this white wine is a real standout. Taste of green passion fruit and gooseberry offer great density of fruit, with lively acidity for balance and structure. Cool fermentation in stainless steel retains the primary characters providing pristine fruit clarity and a long, clean finish with a crisp character. 2005 was a great year for white wine at Voyager Estate, and this Sauvignon Blanc is the proof. The grapes were hand picked at low sugars (11.3 –13 Baumé) with fresh ripe flavors. The late summer ripening period was generally cool and dry in Margaret River. However despite these cool conditions the grapes ripened very quickly. This was largely due to excellent crop management and extensive crop-thinning. Picking began earlier than normal with the result for Voyager Estate being an outstanding white vintage where good vine management was rewarded. Voyager Estate was aiming for a style that is subtle in character with a flavor spectrum closer to the citrus, stone fruit and passion fruit. They suceeded with this 2005 Sauvignon Blanc white wine. The Sauvignon Blanc fruit was hand-picked from low-yielding 26-year-old vines, hand-sorted and whole-bunch pressed. The free run juice was allowed to settle for several days and was then inoculated with a specially selected yeast strain that enhances the delicate Sauvignon Blanc flavors. Cool fermentation in stainless steel allowed the retention of the primary characters, providing pristine fruit clarity and a long, clean finish.

Voyager Estate is located in the premium wine producing region of Margaret River, Western Australia. Latest statistics show that, although only producing 4% of Australia's wine by volume, Margaret River wines account for 23% of the country's premium wine production. Some of the varietals in the region produce the highest rated wine of Australia. Voyager Estate is proud to be among the select wineries that contribute to this production. Their oldest vines date back to 1978. When current owner, Michael Wright, took over the property in 1991, he set out to expand it and develop a visitor destination that would be a showcase for the region. He also set out to ensure that, above all else, the quality of wine being made at Voyager Estate would always be the best that nature, expertise and pure hard work could provide. Ratings and reviews show that he has suceeded.

RATINGS: 95 Points - James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion, 2007 Edition
"Fresh, precise passionfruit and kiwifruit aromas, then a lively palate in delicious, early picked style."

93 Points - The Australian Financial Review, February 2006
"Intense nectarine, grapefruit smelling with some spice and basil – builds in the glass. Loaded with nectarine into pineapple fruit on the palate, super-deep and sharp mouth-watering flavours. Long, mouth-sucking and succulent with plenty of tang and bite. Fabulous Sauvignon. 93/100."

17.5 Points / 20 - SILVER Medal - Scoop Western Australian Regional Wine Tasting, Summer Edition, December 2005
"The most herbaceous and lifted of the six Margaret River sauvignon blanc releases tasted, and, as with other nearby or local examples, this is full and powerful…don’t look for finesse here. Delicious."
