Barbera wine from Italy is becoming very popular. Gianni Gagliardo LA MATTA Bareber D'Alba is an exmaple of why they are so sought after. The Gianni Gagliardo winery makes their world-class Barbera from hand-selected grapes from their TOP single vineyards located in Barolo and Roero. The La Matta Barbera d’Alba has a bright ruby red color, vinous and intense. It is dry, with well balanced acids, good body and particular softness. Opulent flavors with layers of concentrated cassis fruit surprisingly supple, round and soft in acidity with impressive power on the palate. Wonderful with roasted meats, spicy foods and cheeses. Rich and soft, a wine that everyone will enjoy. Barbera is indigenous to the region and was first recorded in the Barolo district in the 13th century. Today, Barbera is the most widely planted grape variety in Piedmont. Barbera has historically had to fight for the best vineyard sites with Nebbiolo. Producers have increasingly dedicated better vineyard area to Barbera and are beginning to change traditional winemaking practices in an attempt to tame the grapes high natural level of acidity. This winemaking family goes back six generations in the area. The grapes grown on each single vineyard are all vinified separately, by hand and with small, high-quality yields. At Present the Gagliardo estate is composed of 30 hectares. This land is distributed in the zones of La Morra, Barolo, Serralunga and Monticello d' Alba.
