Great Good Average Poor

Best Pinot Noir in Sonoma County California is how the D'Argenzio Pinot Noir 2004 Bacigalupi Vineyard is described in competition. D Argenzio Pinot Noir 2004 is a luxuriant Russian River Pinot Noir, in every sense. It has an opening medley of Bing cherry, cranberry and allspice that greets the nose. Richly textured with superb weight, the wine fills the palate with black cherry, candied orange peel and a touch of vanilla. The lingering finish presents intriguing layers of black pepper, cloves, creamy mocha and stony earth. That's why it won the Best Pinot Noir from Sonoma competition with a perfect score of 9 out of 9. The climate of the Russian River Valley is ideal for growing worldclass Pinot Noir grapes. The Bacigalupi Vineyard is situated along Westside Road, south of the town of Healdsburg in the Russian River Valley, where foggy mornings provide a blanket of protection to the vineyards. Cool springs and moderate summer warmth allow for optimal development of Pinot Noir flavors. D'Argenzio Pinot Noir 2004 is lightly filtered and unfined. It is everything that Pinot lovers expect from the best Pinot Noir wine in California.

RATINGS: 9 Points out of 9 (Sonoma's BEST Pinot Noir)- Pinot on the River Competition
"2004 D'Argenzio Pinot Noir Bacigalupi SCORE: 9/9. This year...the number of wineries pouring their stuff nearly doubled as did the number of attendees, making for a bit more of a crush in the tasting tent...I've transcribed my scores only for wines that scored higher than 8.5/9 on my scale. All wines are Pinot Noir unless otherwise noted. Because most of the prices were so high, I've also called out the wines which I believe represent the best values at the tasting."

"460 cases, $36. - This Pinot has a bright nose of red fruits. Richly oaked red fruits carry through to a lingering finish with moderate fine tannins. A full-flavored style with generous oak features." - Reviewed January 22, 2007 - PINOT FILE
