Bodegas Tempranillo Torre De Barreda Seleccion 2002 wine is a magnificent example of a good Tempranillo table wine that is affordably priced. From Toledo Spain, this Castilla designated Tempranillo is produced from local fruit in the Barreda estate. Only select grapes are chosen by the Bodegas to create this Tempranillo. It is a deep red, almost opaque color. Torre De Barreda Seleccion Tempranillo has an aroma of good intensity, which features a large concentration of very ripe black fruit (almost jam) and a spicy background. In the mouth it is powerful, fruity (black fruit), with good acidity and a persistent and long finish that includes tannic sensations. This wine is great for entertaining or just relaxing at home.
An hour south of Madrid, the Barreda family has a 350 hectares estate that is in partnership with Georges Pauli from Château Gruaud-Larose. Their Bodegas produce top quality wines using the oldest Tempranillo vines on the estate. The Barreda family has an extensive wine making family in La Mancha, Toledo, Spain. Barreda House was built in 1642, at which time they produced small quantities of wine. In 1945 the current winery was built on that same land that the family built the original house. It was one of the first wineries built after the Spanish Civil War, and the first winery from the Province of Toledo to receive the D.O. Mancha. Their wines are mostly sold in Spain, where they are extremely popular.
