Chile Chardonnay De Martino Legado Reserva Chardonnay 2005 comes from a vineyard just 12.4 miles from the sea in the Limar Valley. Because the temperatures are lower there than in the rest of the valley, the grapes ripen more slowly, which results in a fresh wine with exceptional natural acidity. This 2005 Chile Chardonnay has notes of sweet papayas, fresh peaches and soft vanilla appear. It demonstrates a citric acidity reminiscent of colder climates and a volume in the mouth that reminds one of sunny days in the north of Chile. De Martino Legado Reserva 2005 Chile Chardonnay is a real standout when it comes to taste. In the mouth it is soft and the mineral flavors come through, along with the fresh fruit flavors that are well-integrated with the oak. Aged for 11 months in the same French oak barriques that they are fermented in give it that burly and full taste that pairs well with pasta, chicken, lobster and other dishes with creamy sauces. It's smooth so you can also enjoy it on its own. It is recommended that you serve at 55F. Drink through 2009.

The De Martino family has been producing wine in the famous Maipo Valley of Chile for almost 70 years. The wines reflect the areas terroir, resulting in big, rich, extracted flavor. Delicate use of oak adds complexity, but the strength of De Martino wines is in their fruit. These wines are concentrated and elegant, each with a distinctive personality. The De Martino winery has received a flurry of recognition from Chiles most prestigious wine guide, the 2004 Guia de Vinos de Chile, which singled out De Martino winemaker Marcelo Retamal as Winemaker of the Year and named the Legado Sauvignon Blanc, Legado Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere as the top wines in their categories. With their Chardonnay wines earning 90 plus points in recent reviews, it is just a matter of time before De Martino wines start moving up in price.

RATINGS: 88 Points - Wine Enthusiast
"A little more floral and waxy than some, but also a touch more complex and interesting than most. The nose is exotic, while the palate runs more tangy and slick than might be expected. The finish is warm and loaded with apple, while depth is pretty good, too."

DE MARTINO LEGADO CHILE CHARDONNAY 2005 Information:
VINTAGE - 2005
Chief Winemaker - Marcelo Retamal
Winemaker - Felipe Mller
Wine Advisor - Adriana Cerda
Grape variety - 100% Chardonnay
Apellation - Limar Valley.
This valley is situated in the north of Chile and is renowned for its wide diversity of climates. Where the location is close to the sea, the Pacific Ocean exerts a great influence, keeping the temperatures lower than further inland, which results in the grapes maturing more slowly to deliver a wine that is very fresh and with an acidity that adds even more freshness.
Soil - Alluvial terrace with an important presence of clay.
Production - From the pruning to the harvest, each one of the tasks carried out in the vineyard has been carefully supervised by the winemaking team to ensure the highest quality of grapes possible from this terroir. The grapes were hand picked at the moment of optimum ripeness, and later they were selected, destalked and pressed prior to cold maceration(6to8C), and finally they were fermented in French oak barriques with selected yeasts.
Aging - When the fermentation was finished, the wine was kept for 11 months in the same French oak barriques.
Alcohol: 14%
