Macari Vineyards, located on the North Fork of Eastern Long Island in Mattituck, New York is owned and operated by the Macari Family. What were once potato fields and farmland has become a vineyard of 180 acres of vines with additional fields of compost, farmland, and a home to cows, goats, Sicilian donkeys and ducks. Macari is on the cutting edge of viticulture and is dedicated to a more natural approach to winemaking. Joseph Macari, Jr. is recognized as a pioneer in the movement towards organic and sustainable farming on Long Island, employing principles of biodynamic farming since the vineyard’s first plantings. Extensive soil preparation, rich composts, careful cover cropping and a consideration to wildlife and terrain makes Macari's 180 planted acres stand out from the rest. Taking into account the health of the environment as a whole, and moving away from the harmful effects of pesticides to a more natural and meticulous caretaking of the soil and plants, ultimately yields premium wines.
RATINGS: Highly Recommended - Dans Papers
"well-made, citrus-driven Chardonnay with excellent balance and grace. Clean... subtle hints of creamy toastiness. Serve it before dinner, with most any seafood or with lemon pepper chicken".
89 Points - Wine Spectator
"Macari 2003 Reserve Barrel Fermented Chardonnay - Full-bodied, with soft flavors of vanilla, butterscotch and pear and enough acidity for balance. Spicy, honeyed finish."
BRONZE Medal - New York State Wine & Food Classic
4 GLASSES out of 5 - Snooth
"Skillfully walks the line between fruit and oak, offering the best of both. The nose is redolent of a toffee apple sprinkled with cinnamon spice. Creamy, but surprisingly light on the palate, this is one of the better barrel-fermented chardonnays on the North Fork. Its flavors are layered and complex — ripe and baked apple, butterscotch, vanilla, faint peach, baking spice — and the finish lingers with an alluring spice note at the end. The oak influence is obvious, but far from overdone."
SILVER Medal - World Wine Championship Awards
"This elegant chardonnay was crafted in very small quantity, using only hand selected grapes. An enticing nose of caramel, apple and spicy asian pear leads to a creamy, almost frothy sensation on the palate. Lees-stirring for 3 months kept the flavor of the fruit intact, bringing about a chardonnay with the perfect balance of fruit and oak. This chardonnay is broad with hints of tropical fruits and stonefruit. A long lingering, yet clean finish, with just a hint of citrus, this elegant chardonnay aged for 10 months in French Barrique is drinking wonderfully now, yet it should continue to develop and gain complexity for the next few years." |
